City Council Applications Due June 30

Residents interested in applying for appointment to the City Council have until 5 p.m. on June 30 to file with the city clerk’s office. The Council will hold interviews of applicants on July 11, 12 and 13. An appointment to fill the seat — which became vacant last month with the death of longtime councilmember and seven-time Mayor Dave Spence — is scheduled to take place by July 13, according to the city website, lcf.ca.gov.
Additional written information after June 30 will not be accepted, unless requested by the City Council.
Original applications must be submitted by mail or in-person to the City Clerk’s Office, 1327 Foothill Blvd., La Cañada Flintridge, CA 91011. Emailed and faxed applications will not be accepted.
To be eligible to be appointed to the City Council, an individual must be a LCF resident, must be a registered voter in the city and must be selected by a majority vote of the City Council. Verification of voter registration will be confirmed upon submittal of an application.
The person appointed would hold office until the next General Municipal Election, which is currently scheduled for March 5, 2019, but might be as early as November 2018, given to-be-determined Senate Bill 415 requirements.
Once a council member application is filed with the city, all information contained therein (except telephone contact information) becomes a public record.
If appointed, the new council member will be required by state law to file a Statement of Economic Interests, Form 700 (assuming office) with the Fair Political Practices Commission.
Questions pertaining to this process should be directed to City Clerk Tania Moreno, who can be reached at (818) 790-8880 or via email at tmoreno@lcf.ca.gov.
