Theodore Chamberlain, a recent graduate of La Cañada High School, joined Boy Scout Troop 398 in 2013. He has benefitted in developing his leadership skills and deepened his value of community service through the Scouting program. His favorite times were overnight camping and Boy Scout camps. His Eagle Scout Project entailed rebuilding and restoring the softball field backstops at La Cañada High School.
The field is used by the high school teams and many other youth programs in the community on a year-round basis. The project was a team effort, thanks to all the support of friends and family, and particularly the amazing leadership of Boy Scout Troop 398.
Chamberlain enjoys sports and will continue playing his favorite game of football at Claremont McKenna College this fall.
Kristian Fors, a 2017 graduate of La Cañada High School, attained the Eagle Scout rank in June 2016 at age 16. He joined Cub Scouts at Palm Crest Elementary School and continued with Boy Scout Troop 398. Fors has enjoyed many Scouting experiences, including summer camps at Camp Kern, Cherry Valley and Chawanakee and adventures such as Havasupai Falls in the Grand Canyon, New Army Pass in the Sierras, Kings River white-water rafting and the Lost Trail along the Northern California coastline. Fors’ Eagle Project was a most gratifying accomplishment. He planned and coordinated a free dental clinic with AYUDA International, an affiliate of the USC School of Dentistry, which served 88 Foothill and Glendale residents needing dental care. He is grateful for all the support he received for this rewarding community project. While at LCHS, Fors participated in sports and choral programs, which included trips to Italy and Spain with the LCHS Choral Artists. His other interests include politics, martial arts, cliff jumping and archery.
Hesu Song, a recent graduate of North Hollywood High School, has been Scouting since he was 8 years old as a Cub Scout. Despite having switched troops because of moving homes, he received a lot of help transitioning into Troop 398 from his Scoutmaster David Van Slooten and other leaders. His favorite memory in Scouting is the campout at the top of Mount Baden Powell. He woke up in the morning to find himself standing above the clouds for the first time. For his project, he worked with the arborist for the city of Los Angeles, Leon Boroditsky, and his fellow Scouts to plant trees, clean up and lay mulch in Fern Dell, Song’s favorite trail in Griffith Park. Throughout high school, he devoted his time competing at debate tournaments, volunteering for campaigns and interning for Los Angeles City Councilmember David Ryu. Scouting has been a valuable time in his teenage years, and he is determined to continue living the principles throughout his life.
