Planning Commission to Hold Zoning Code Hearings

The La Cañada Flintridge Planning Commission recently voted to approve a preliminary schedule of public hearings for a comprehensive update to the city’s zoning code.
The update will impact properties citywide because it will repeal and replace the zoning code and alter the zoning map to be consistent with the 2013 general plan.
The first of 15 special meetings will start at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, and address general provisions of the zoning code as well as administrative authority and enforcement among other topics. Other meetings will address topics such as zones, allowable land uses and zone-specific standards (Feb. 20) or single family residential zones (March 7 and March 19). Hillside development is set for April 4.
If a particular topic cannot be completed within a specified meeting, it can be continued, and the preliminary schedule will be adjusted to accommodate, according to a city statement.
Meetings will be held at the same time on Saturdays or at 6 p.m. on Thursdays at the LCF City Council chamber, One Civic Center Drive. When all of the meetings conclude, there will be another meeting set for the commission to adopt a resolution on the updated zoning code and make a recommendation to the City Council.
“We do not have a tentative date for that, given that based on feedback from the community and Planning Commission, additional changes to the proposed zoning code are likely to occur,” said Susan Koleda, LCF director of community development.
Besides the sessions mentioned earlier, meetings are tentatively scheduled for April 16, May 2, May 21, June 6, June 18, Aug. 1, Sept. 5, Sept. 17 and Oct. 3.
After last week’s meeting, Koleda said there was a change in the schedule as a meeting scheduled for July 16 was postponed because of a city and Chamber of Commerce mixer.
Koleda said the meetings would not be broadcast on the city’s website because they fall under the category of special meetings.
