Spartans, Flintridge Prep, FSHA in Action

The La Cañada High School varsity softball team continued its fine season after sweeping the first three games of the Duarte Classic, including crushing visiting Garden Grove, 11-1, on Monday.
The recent victory has propelled the Spartans (5-1 overall record) into the championship game at Duarte High School on Saturday, March 5, at 4:15 p.m.; the opponent was undetermined by the Outlook Valley Sun’s press deadline.
With the game tied 1-1, a deciding five-run third inning secured a La Cañada victory as sophomore pitcher Elle Leckrone, who finished 2-for-4 at the plate, cruised the rest of the way. She tossed five innings with six strikeouts while only allowing two hits, one walk and one unearned run. Senior captain Nicole Wong finished 2-for-2 with three RBIs, two stolen bases, a walk and a run scored, while sophomore catcher Ashley Lovejoy collected a double, three RBIs, two walks and one run scored. Freshman outfielder Abigail Milton tallied a double, two RBIs and a run scored, sophomore infielder Mia Salardino finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored, and senior infielder Emma Seely finished 1-for-1 with a double and a run scored.
The Spartans defeated host Crescenta Valley of La Crescenta, 9-6, in a late afternoon matchup on Saturday, Feb. 26. Milton finished 3-for-3, including a home run, with three RBIs, two stolen bases and two runs scored, while Leckrone collected a triple with four RBIs. Junior utility player Kyra Davis finished 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored, Wong notched two hits, two runs scored and one RBI, and senior shortstop Amy Lyman had one hit, one RBI and one run scored. Freshman infielder Bentley Lebrecque scored once in two plate appearances.
La Cañada won its tournament opener early Saturday morning against Covina, 1-0, as Leckrone did all the damage herself, pitching five shutout innings with five strikeouts and blasting a solo home run in the fourth inning. Wong finished 2-for-3 with a double, while Lyman tallied a single.
Before tournament play resumes, the Spartans are scheduled to visit South Pasadena for a Rio Hondo League game on Friday, March 4, at 3:15 p.m.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves recently dropped a nonleague game 13-1 to visiting Alhambra Ramona Covent on Tuesday. Freshman starting pitcher Elise Fong took the loss but did damage at the plate, finishing 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.
Flintridge Prep previously won its first game of the season against visiting Claremont Webb, 14-4, last Friday, Feb. 25. Senior Jaime Notley finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs, while junior Sarah Bougdanos went 1-for-2 with four runs scored and three stolen bases. Meanwhile, Fong earned her first career victory in the circle.
The Wolves (1-2-1 overall) are scheduled to begin Prep League action by hosting Burbank Providence on Friday, March 4, at 3:30.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART
The Tologs recently defeated visiting Mayfield Senior of Pasadena, 9-5, in a nonleague game on Monday, Feb. 28. FSHA took the lead in the second inning and never looked back, although Mayfield did make it interesting by plating four runs in the last two innings.
The Tologs previously crushed visiting Pasadena’s La Salle College Preparatory, 20-0, last Thursday, Feb. 24. No individual statistics were reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
FSHA (2-1 overall) is scheduled to host West Hills Chaminade in a nonleague game on Friday, March 4, at 3 p.m.
