First published in the Sept. 15 print issue of the Outlook Valley Sun.

The Jack Lantz Sextet will present a Jazz Vespers featuring the music of Duke Ellington in the La Cañada Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Sept. 18, at 5 p.m.
As many jazz musicians, Ellington was raised in the church. His faith influenced his life and was reflected in his music.
LCPC Jazz Vespers is presented live and in-person in the sanctuary at LCPC. In addition, it will be livestreamed – see the link below.

The program will feature the Jack Lantz Sextet, with Jack Lantz on piano, Lance Rickman on alto and tenor saxophones, Jeff Kaye on trumpet, Ido Meshulam on trombone, Nick Morabito on bass and Dave Marks on drums. The band will improvise on a wide range of familiar hymns and gospel music, all in swing style.
“This Sunday is the opportunity for people to have fun, to worship, to celebrate and do all those fun things they like to do with jazz swing music,” Lantz said.
No charge and no reservations are required for this hourlong event, with free-will offering accepted.
La Cañada Presbyterian Church is located at 626 Foothill Blvd. For further information, call the church office at (818) 790-6708, or visit lacanadapc.org.
