The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ soccer team blanked visiting Newbury Park, 2-0, in a nonleague game last Thursday.
Sophomore Hailee Takao and freshman Samantha Hosford each scored one goal while junior goalie Montana LaBarge registered a pair of saves. LCHS head coach Kevin Neumeier credited his team for playing their best soccer match of the season.
The Spartans previously played a scoreless tie at La Salle College Preparatory in Pasadena, as LaBarge recorded a pair of saves.
La Cañada (4-2-1 overall) will return to action by hosting Mayfield Senior of Pasadena in a nonleague game on Thursday, Jan. 5, at 5 p.m.
FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART
The Tologs edged visiting Immaculate Heart High of Los Angeles, 2-1, in a nonleague game last Thursday.
FSHA previously lost a nonleague game at Mayfield Senior in Pasadena, 3-1. Sophomore Julia Vazquez scored the lone goal while senior Josie Perkins and freshman Sophia Tovar were each credited with an assist.
FSHA (5-1 overall) will visit La Salle College Preparatory in Pasadena for a nonleague game on Friday, Dec. 16, at 3:30 p.m.
FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves competed in the Best in the West Tournament last weekend and finished with a 1-0-1 record.
Flintridge Prep blanked Redlands East Valley, 2-0, to finish the first day of tournament play on Saturday. Senior Chayse Ying registered two goals, seniors Presley Nevadomsky and Sage Shurman each had one assist, and senior goalie Ana Bozzi-Mackay earned a shutout win.
The Wolves tied a game for the second time in as many days after opening tournament play with a scoreless draw against Canyon High of Canyon Country on Saturday.
Flintridge Prep tied visiting Palos Verdes Chadwick, 1-1, in a Prep League game last Friday. Sophomore Valentina Mancilla scored the tying goal in the second half while freshman Scarlett Coombes was credited with an assist.
The Wolves previously routed visiting Westridge School of Pasadena, 8-0, in their league opener. Shurman amassed three goals and two assists while Mancilla registered a hat trick. Ying produced one goal and one assist while Coombes scored once. Senior Miranda Thomson finished with two assists while Nevadomsky, freshman Valentina Ronga and freshman Story Lim each tallied one assist.
Following the conclusion of the Best in the West Tournament, Flintridge Prep (3-0-2 overall, 1-0-1 in league) will host Granada Hills Charter of Granada Hills in a nonleague game on Tuesday, Dec. 22, at 11 a.m.
