Spartans, St. Francis Win Damien Openers

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ basketball team defeated Rialto, 68-54, in its Classic at Damien tournament opener Monday night at Damien High School in La Verne.
Senior Evan Mulcahey racked up 22 points, including six 3-pointers, six rebounds and one block. Junior Jack Reynolds poured in 12 points with three assists, two boards and one steal, junior Matthew Plocher registered nine points, three assists, three rebounds and two blocks, and senior Samuel Guerrero finished with eight points, eight assists, four boards, two blocks and two steals.
Sophomore Josh Proctor scored six points with six rebounds while sophomore Josh Pastor tallied five points and one steal. Senior Jacob Pastor produced four points, three assists, one steal and one board while junior Anders Petersen had two points, three rebounds and one assist.
The Spartans (9-4 overall) will finish competing in the Classic at Damien this week before opening Rio Hondo League action at Blair High in Pasadena on Friday, Jan. 6, at 7 p.m.

The Golden Knights defeated Hillcrest High of Riverside, 52-48, in their Classic at Damien opener Monday afternoon.
Senior captain Jackson Mosley racked up a team-high 21 points, sophomore Mazi Mosley poured in 14 points, and senior Brandin Dantzler tallied seven points, eight rebounds and two blocks.
The Golden Knights (12-2 overall) will finish competing in the Classic at Damien this week before hosting El Camino Real High of Woodland Hills in a nonleague game on Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 7 p.m.

FLINTRDGE PREP

The Wolves recently lost a nonleague game against visiting La Cañada, 47-44. Senior Geoffrey Stetson produced a team-high 13 points for the Wolves while senior Theo Kuo poured in 11 points. Senior Caleb Bowne scored nine points, junior Henry Morrison registered seven points and junior Will Bigby had four points.
Flintridge Prep (9-4 overall, 2-0 in league) will finish competing in the South Pasadena tournament this week before visiting Price High in Los Angeles for a nonleague game on Saturday, Jan. 7, at 4 p.m.
