The La Cañada Council PTA recently held its annual morning breakfast reception, Spotlight on Students, that highlighted the work being done at La Cañada Unified District schools.
The event featured students, teachers and staff representatives’ presentations on programs that were successful over the past school year.
LCHS 7/8 Principal Jarrett Gold introduced students Nicole Otieno and Tanner Salardino with teacher representative Michael Sandoval to speak about the school’s Intramural Program, which gives many more students the opportunity to play a sport. “No matter your ability, there is a place for you,” said Otieno at the event.
LCHS highlighted their engineering and robotics team that was recently invited to compete in the Robotics World Championships in Houston, Texas — a coveted honor — due to winning at the regional level Impact Awareness qualifier.
LCE Principal Emily Blaney presented a group of 5th-grade ukulele students from all the elementary schools who played “Someone to Lean On.” All 5th-grade students within LCUSD have access to a ukulele as part of the music class curriculum.
PCR Principal Amy Marcoullier spoke about Elias Kang and his creation of a recycling program at PCR last year, which has expanded this year.
PCY Principal Carrie Hetzel shared art projects from 1st- and 3rd-grade students.
The PTA Council also awarded Ari Tujian and Jallen Merager with scholarships at the event.
