La Cañada Fends Off Monrovia for League Win

The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ tennis team secured a 15-3 Rio Hondo League victory at Monrovia on Sept. 28.
The No. 1 doubles team of Jessica Simonian and Kaylee Thornburgh won a set, 6-0. Thornburgh alternated with Anna Forster, and the new duo with Simonian added a pair of 6-0 wins. The No. 2 duo of Christina Seibert and Pauline Hess won a pair of sets with identical 6-0 scores. Seibert alternated with Maddison Hunt in the final round, and the new pairing with Hess added a 6-1 win. The No. 3 tandem of Claire Lin and Kate Austin swept with scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, No. 1 Lillian Chamras swept with scores of 6-2, 6-0 and 6-2, and No. 2 Maya Lindenfeld swept with scores of 6-3, 6-0 and 6-1.
The Spartans lost to rivals San Marino 14-4 in a league match at home on Sept. 26. The No. 2 doubles team of Thornburgh and Lauren Kim swept with scores of 6-1, 6-3 and 6-4, while the No. 1 tandem of Seibert and Hess won a set, 7-5.
LCHS (5-1 overall, 2-1 in league) will host Temple City for a league match on Oct. 5 at 4 p.m. before visiting South Pasadena on Oct. 10.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

The Wolves edged host Polytechnic 10-8 in a Prep League match on Sept. 29.
In singles play, No. 1 Kat Zirn won two sets with scores of 6-0 and 6-2. Meanwhile, No. 2 Emily Hsiao won a set with a score of 6-4.
In the doubles category, the No. 1 team of Kaitlyn Lavichant and Sienna Beltz swept their sets with scores of 6-0, 7-6 and 6-1. The No. 2 tandem of Kayla Lee and Nicole Lee won two sets with identical scores of 6-1. Additionally, the No. 3 pairing of Kara Choy and Vanessa Hsu won two sets, with scores of 6-4 and 6-1.
Flintridge Prep (7-0, 3-0) will visit Providence High in Burbank for a league match on Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. before visiting Mayfield Senior on Oct. 10 at 3:30 p.m.

The Tologs were shut out by visiting Harvard-Westlake High of Studio City 18-0 in a Mission League match on Oct. 2.
FSHA narrowly lost to visiting Chaminade High of West Hills 10-8 in a league match on Sept. 28.
The No. 1 doubles team of Mia Wertheimer and Grace Garrity swept their sets with scores of 6-2, 6-3 and 6-4. The No. 2 tandem of Emma Oakland and Gabriella Newman swept with scores of 6-2, 6-1 and 7-6 (7-4). The No. 3 pairing of Lauren Kilpatrick and Isabelle Gavina won two sets with scores of 7-5 and 6-3.
The Tologs lost at Harvard-Westlake High in Studio City 17-1 in a league matchup on Sept. 26 as the No. 2 doubles team of Oakland and Newman won a set, 6-4.
The Tologs (0-10, 0-5) will visit Sherman Oaks Notre Dame on Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. before visiting Chaminade High in West Hills for their regular season finale on Oct. 17.
