Flintridge Prep Seniors Named to Rose Court

Two Flintridge Preparatory seniors, Mia Moore-Walker and Jessica Powell, have been selected to the Pasadena Tournament of Roses’ Royal Court, announced Monday morning in Pasadena. The anticipated reveal was attended by nearly 200 people on the south lawn of Tournament House, including friends and family of the 28 finalists.
Moore-Walker lives in Pasadena, and is a lead care mentor at Environmental Contribution Organization jellyfish lab, a member of the Spiritline Cheer Team, a member of the chess team, president and founder of The STEMistry Project nonprofit, a varsity member of Speech and Debate, a member of the student leadership committee for Private School Village promoting diversity and equity in private schools, and a private tutor.
Moore-Walker enjoys nature, dancing, acting, reading, arts and crafts, habitat restoration, painting, animals and watching “Doctor Who.” She also speaks fluent Mandarin. She is interested in studying biology with a concentration in conservation at Brown University, Howard University, Northwestern University, Stanford University, Syracuse University, University of California, Berkeley, or the University of Southern California. Moore-Walker is the daughter of Bradley Walker and Jennifer Moore-Walker.
Powell lives in Pasadena and is co-founder and co-president of the True Crime Club, a member of Student Honor Council, a media creator for Student Community Action Council, a member of Lake Avenue Church, a volunteer for Stars Youth Mentoring program, and plays for the Flintridge Preparatory School varsity volleyball team.
Powell is a Gold Award Girl Scout and enjoys video editing, podcast audio editing, scuba diving, hosting the Dish & Discuss Podcast, baking, graphic design and photography. She plans to pursue a career in biology and medical research and is interested in studying at a University of California campus or a STEM-oriented private university. Powell is the daughter of David and Kara Powell, and has a brother, Nathan, and a sister, Krista.
Members of the 2024 Royal Court will serve as ambassadors of the Tournament of Roses, the Pasadena community, and the greater Los Angeles area, and will each receive a $7,500 educational scholarship.
“The selected young ladies exemplify character, service and leadership modeled through their commitment to family, school and community,” a Tournament of Roses spokesperson said. “Royal Court members experience countless benefits, including personal development programs designed to enhance their public speaking and presentation abilities, boost self-confidence and refine their etiquette skills. Royal Court members are provided with opportunities to actively participate in the community, make positive contributions and discover ways to connect with local leaders.”
The Rose Queen and Royal Court are iconic traditions, steeped in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses’ history and continue as a treasured legacy. The announcement and coronation of the 105th Rose Queen and presentation of the 2024 Royal Court will be held on Friday, Oct. 27, on the front lawn of Tournament House.
The 2024 Rose Court will ride down Colorado Boulevard on the Royal Court float in the 135th Rose Parade and attend the College Football Playoff semifinal at the 110th Rose Bowl Game, both on Monday, Jan. 1.
