Spartans Stifled By Monrovia’s Late Rally

The La Cañada High School varsity football team lost to visiting Monrovia 49-45 in a Rio Hondo League game on Oct. 13.
The game started with senior quarterback Macky Plocher’s 6-yard touchdown pass to senior Luke Raulli, securing an early 7-0 lead for the Spartans. Plocher and Raulli’s successful collaboration continued with a 57-yard touchdown pass in the final quarter.
Plocher connected with senior Tyler Bond for a 25-yard touchdown pass, extending La Cañada’s lead to 14-0 with 8:50 left in the second quarter. A 5-yard touchdown run by senior Lorenz Bayug maintained the Spartans’ lead at 21-7 with 38 seconds left in the first half.
Tied at 21, Spartans junior Quest Swan drilled a field goal attempt to put the La Cañada ahead by three points. Plocher later completed a 15-yard touchdown pass to senior Hayden Dancsecs with 4:47 remaining to give the Spartans a 31-21 lead.
Despite their efforts, Monrovia staged a late-game comeback with two critical drives in the final six minutes to claim a four-point victory.
LCHS (3-5 overall, 1-2 in league) will visit South Pasadena for a league game on Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. before hosting Temple City for its regular-season finale on Oct. 27.
