Thanksgiving Run and Food Drive to Return for 30th Year

The 30th annual Thanksgiving Day Run and Food Drive will take place on Nov. 23 at Memorial Park and will feature a new route.
The route has been relocated to Foothill Boulevard between El Camino Corto and Gould Avenue. Beginning near La Cañada Boulevard, runners will travel westbound on Foothill Boulevard, turn eastbound on Foothill near El Camino Corto and continue on the eastbound lanes. They will finish by traveling westbound before Gould Avenue, then ending the race on La Cañada Boulevard.
The revamped route means Foothill Boulevard will be closed to traffic for the entire duration of the run. This change prioritizes the safety of all involved parties. In addition, the updated route avoids any freeway on and off ramps, further reducing any potential risks to participants.
The Thanksgiving Day Run features an Adult 5k/Walk with an 8 a.m. warm up and 8:30 a.m. race time, as well as a Kids’ Mile with a 9 a.m. warm up and 9:30 a.m. race time. Registered participants may pick up their swag bags and race bibs at the Community Center — located at 4469 Chevy Chase Drive — on Nov. 21 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge has partnered with NASA Services for its Thanksgiving Food Drive this year.
Decorated food drive bins can be found at CCLCF, LCF schools and select businesses throughout the area including Gelsons Market, Sprouts, Bob Smith Toyota, Crescenta Cañada Pet Hospital, CalTech Federal Credit Union, Citizens Business Bank and Rose Gold Fitness.
The Community Center is seeking donations of soups, canned vegetables, pasta, boxed milk, cereal, baby formula, juice boxes, granola bars, rice and other nonperishable foods. Food donations will be distributed to those in need this holiday season by the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Department. Last year, 45 bins of food were collected to help feed 150 families.
Community members can also bring food donations to the Thanksgiving Day 5K Run/Walk and Kids Mile on Thursday, Nov. 23. All donations will be distributed to community members in need by the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Department.
This event is the Community Center’s largest fundraiser of the year with spots filling up quickly. Participants can register by visiting athlinks.com/event/30th-annual-thanksgiving-day-run-food-drive-213248.
