Palm Crest Elementary fourth graders recently made salt and flour maps of California, a topic they have been learing about throughout the year in their history class.
This crafty project has been a favorite among students, who brought in the dough for their maps. Along the way, Fourth grade teacher Laura Berdahl helped instruct students on how to form the mountain valleys of California. This tactile project was away for students to further learn about the geography of the state.
After maps were designed, the projects were stored in a special place to dry, which will take months to complete. The maps won’t be ready to paint until March 2024.

First published in the November 9 print issue of the Outlook Valley Sun.
