La Cañada Reaches CIF State Regional Final

The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ volleyball team, seeded No. 14 in the state volleyball playoffs, concluded its season after losing at No. 4 Palos Verdes, 21-25, 23-25, 21-25, in a CIF Division I Regional Final contest on Nov. 14. More details on that matchup will be included in next week’s Outlook Valley Sun issue.
The Spartans advanced to the regional final with a sweep against No. 7 seed San Luis Obispo by scores of 25-20, 25-18, 25-22 in a CIF Regional semifinal contest on Nov. 11. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
The Spartans swept Orange Lutheran High, the No. 6 seed, by scores of 25-14, 25-23, 25-22, in a second-round road matchup of the state playoffs on Nov. 9.
Junior Ashby Zubchevich racked up 13 kills, eight digs, three aces and one block, while senior Haley Clark recorded 12 kills, six digs, four blocks, two aces and one assist. Senior Tatum Purdy amassed 28 assists, eight digs, two kills, one ace and one block, while senior Chloe Nussbaum tallied 10 digs, three assists and two aces. Sophomore Vani Tatoulian chipped in five kills and three blocks, freshman Luella Lewis registered five blocks and one kill, freshman Maya Purdy produced four digs, three blocks, one ace and one assist, and junior Danica Eggleston contributed two digs.
The Spartans defeated No. 3-seeded Bishop’s High in La Jolla in four games, 23-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-22, in their state opener on Nov. 7.
Tatum Purdy amassed 56 assists, eight digs, four blocks, three kills and one ace, while Zubchevich racked up 30 kills, eight digs, four aces and two blocks. Clark finished with 19 digs, 14 kills, two assists and one block, Tatoulian registered 10 kills, seven blocks and one dig, and Nussbaum tallied 13 digs, six assists and two aces. Lewis recorded seven kills, two blocks and two digs, Maya Purdy contributed six digs, one kill, one ace and one block, and Eggleston had one dig.
