Spartans Begin Season With Narrow Victory

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ basketball team defeated visiting San Dimas 73-69 in its season opener on Nov. 14.
Josh Pastor contributed 25 points, four assists, three steals and three rebounds, Josh Procter added 20 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks, and Jack Reynolds finished with 17 points, six assists, three rebounds, three blocks and one steal.
Anders Petersen recorded five points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal, Spencer Moravec tallied three points, three steals and one rebound, and Saad Bangash scored three points. Jensen Karlich recorded two assists and one rebound, Julian Morillo chipped in one rebound and one block, and Shervin Naini had one assist and one rebound.
The Spartans lost to visiting Pilibos High of Los Angeles 65-53 in a nonleague game on Nov. 17, as Pastor racked up 26 points, five steals, two rebounds, one assist and one block. Procter tallied 11 points, five rebounds and one block, while Reynolds produced eight points, five assists, three rebounds and one steal. Petersen contributed three points and two rebounds, Karlich chipped in three points and one rebound, and Herrick recorded two points and one steal. Moravec finished with three rebounds, Gupta registered one assist and one rebound, and Bangash had one rebound.
La Cañada lost to visiting Marina High of Huntington Beach 87-71 in a nonleague game on Nov. 18, as Reynolds amassed 35 points with one assist, one steal and one rebound.
Pastor racked up 17 points, three steals, two assists and one rebound, while Petersen registered eight points, three rebounds and one steal. Bangash tallied three points and two rebounds, while Jaidon Gupta contributed three points and one rebound. Diyon Silva finished with two points and one assist, Moravec scored two points, and Naini one point and one steal. Jack Harlan chipped in two blocks, one steal, one assist and one rebound, Matthew Herrick recorded two steals and one rebound, and Conor Banks produced one rebound and one block. Morillo had two rebounds while Karlich had one rebound.
The Spartans (1-2 overall) will compete in the Chaminade Tournament this week; a full tournament roundup will be included in next week’s issue.

Flintridge Prep senior Steven Ng registered 21 points to help the Wolves win their season opener against Carson California Academy of Math Science on Nov 17

The Wolves routed visiting Carson California Academy of Math & Science 63-22 in their season opener on Nov. 17.
Senior Steven Ng racked up 21 points, seven rebounds and three blocks, while junior Lawson Holland tallied 19 points and five rebounds. Senior Will Bigby recorded seven points, four assists and three steals, while senior Henry Morrison finished with seven rebounds and six points.
Flintridge Prep (1-0) will finish competing in the San Gabriel Tournament this week before hosting Bravo High of Los Angeles for a nonleague game on Nov. 29 at 4:30 p.m.

The Golden Knights won their third consecutive game after picking up a narrow 58-55 victory over Downey in their Cantwell Sacred Heart Tournament finale on Nov. 18, as junior captain Mazi Mosley racked up 24 points, five assists, two steals and two rebounds.
Senior Chris Kalachian registered eight rebounds, six points, one assist and one block, while junior Dyllen Domingo tallied six points, six assists, two rebounds and one steal. Junior Joe Hickey chipped in six points, four rebounds, two assists and one block, while junior Ben O’Connor scored six points with one steal. Sophomore captain Delan Grant recorded five points and two steals, while senior Kennedy Mitchell-Egbo contributed three points, two rebounds and one assist. Junior Aaron Matthews finished with three rebounds, two points and one block, while senior Ethan Childs had one rebound and one steal.
SFHS crushed J.W. North High of Riverside 64-38 in a tournament game on Nov. 17.
Mosley recorded 15 points, nine rebounds and two steals, Mitchell-Egbo produced 10 points and five rebounds, and Grant tallied nine points, two rebounds and one steal. Matthews registered six points and five rebounds, Hickey contributed six points and four rebounds, and Kalachian finished with six points and three rebounds. Domingo chipped in five points, two steals, one rebound and one assist, while junior Noah Henry tallied three points, two steals and one assist. Senior Greg Gazarian collected two points, one rebound, one assist and one steal, while junior Ryan Smith scored two points. Childs notched four rebounds, four assists and two steals, O’Connor had two rebounds and junior Liam Selak had one rebound.
The Golden Knights routed South El Monte 67-20 in a tournament game on Nov. 15 as Mosley racked up 21 points, three assists, two rebounds and two steals.

St. Francis narrowly lost to Upland 64-62 in their season opener on Nov. 13.

The Golden Knights (3-1) will visit Arcadia for a nonleague game on Nov. 22 at 6 p.m. before competing in the Kings Academy Tournament, starting with a matchup against Marina High of Huntington Beach on Nov. 25.
