The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ soccer team edged visiting Monrovia 2-1 in a Rio Hondo League game on Jan. 10.
Samantha Hosford scored a 30-yard goal, while the Wildcats succumbed to an own goal. La Cañada coach Kevin Neumeier named Julia Sada as the player of the game, crediting her with tremendous hustle and leadership on the pitch.
The Spartans (9-3 overall, 2-1 in league) will host South Pasadena for a league match on Jan. 24 at 4 p.m. before visiting Monrovia on Jan. 26.
FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves shut out host Providence High in Burbank 8-0 in a Prep League game on Jan. 12 as sophomore goalie Valentina Ronga secured a clean sheet.
Junior Dagny Marion recorded two goals and one assist, while freshman Avery McCormack chipped in two goals. Sophomore Juliet Oberley finished with two assists and one goal, while junior Sarah Rude, junior Valentina Mancilla and freshman Elyse Mauer each scored one goal. Freshman Ava Hulefeld was credited with a pair of assists, while junior Celeste Davila, junior Alynah Henderson and sophomore Sadie Goodman each had one assist.
Flintridge Prep ended its league match against visiting Mayfield Senior of Pasadena in a scoreless draw on Jan. 10.
The Wolves (9-3-2, 2-0-1) will host Westridge School of Pasadena on Jan. 18 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Pasadena Polytechnic on Jan. 20.
FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART
The Tologs suffered a pair of 4-0 Mission League losses against Sherman Oaks Notre Dame on Jan. 12 and Harvard-Westlake High of Studio City on Jan. 10.
FSHA (3-8-2 overall, 0-5 in league) will visit Marymount High in Los Angeles for a league match Jan. 19 at 3:30 p.m. before traveling to Sierra Canyon High in Chatsworth Jan. 24.
