La Cañada Flintridge Officials Provide Wet Weather Safety Measures

In response to the ongoing heavy winds and rainfall this week, La Cañada Flintridge city officials remind residents of the procedures to remain safe.
High-speed winds have the potential to topple and disperse items and debris into storm drains and local waterways, according to officials.
The accumulation of litter and debris in drains, lakes and creeks coupled with increased rainfall raises the concern of potential flooding and transport of pollutants.
The city asks residents to keep the following tips in mind to help prevent flooding and pollutant transfer.

  • Frequently check the local weather forecast for adverse weather conditions such as strong wind and rain.
  • Do not litter and always place trash in the correct waste receptacle.
  • Remember to clean up after pets and dispose of the waste properly.
  • Secure trash bins to prevent them from falling over and ensure they are closed or covered at all times.
  • Thoroughly inspect your lawn and outdoor areas for any trash or debris and properly dispose of it.
  • Sweep any dirt out of curbs and into landscaping to prevent it from entering storm drains.
  • Do not apply fertilizers before a rain event or within 5 feet of pavement, 25 feet of a storm drain or 50 feet of a body of water.
The city encourages residents to work together to ensure the safety and resilience of community during the rainy season. For more tips on pollution prevention measures, visit CityOfLCF.org/public-works/storm-water-management.
