La Cañada Boys’ Basketball Streak of League Titles Ends

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ basketball team concluded the regular season and Rio Hondo League play with a 57-54 loss at San Marino on Feb. 1.
Jack Reynolds poured in 17 points with one steal and one rebound, Josh Pastor registered 12 points, three assists, one steal and one rebound, and Anders Petersen tallied 11 points, nine rebounds, one block, one steal and one assist. Josh Proctor recorded 11 rebounds, eight points, two steals and one block, while Matthew Plocher produced six points, four rebounds, three steals and three assists. Maddox Freeman contributed one steal, one assist and one rebound, while Greyson Torres was credited with one assist.
The Spartans defeated visiting Blair High of Pasadena 84-76 in a league game on Jan. 30 as Proctor posted a double-double with 37 points and 17 rebounds.
Pastor poured in 17 points with three rebounds, Plocher registered eight points, five assists, three steals, three rebounds and one block, and Freeman tallied seven points, three assists, one steal and one rebound. Petersen finished with six points, five assists, two blocks, one steal and one rebound, Reynolds recorded six points, six assists and two rebounds, and Spencer Moravec chipped in three points, three rebounds and one steal.
La Cañada, which finished the season second in league with an 8-2 record (16-12 overall), visited Long Beach Poly (20-8 overall) for its CIF Southern Section Division II-A opener on Feb. 7; the game ended after the Outlook Valley Sun’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. If victorious, the Spartans would advance to the second round and meet either Redlands East Valley (19-8) or Upland (19-8) on Feb. 9.

ST. FRANCIS

The Golden Knights were eliminated in the second round of the Mission League tournament after losing 68-54 at Crespi High in Encino on Jan. 30.
Junior Mazi Mosley poured in 17 points with five rebounds, three steals and three assists, while sophomore Delan Grant registered 10 points and one steal. Junior Noah Henry tallied eight points, two assists and one steal, while junior Joe Hickey chipped in six points and four rebounds. Senior Chris Kalachian recorded five points, one steal, one rebound and one assist, senior Ethan Childs contributed five points and three assists, and junior Ben O’Connor produced three points, one steal and one rebound. Kennedy Mitchell-Egbo had one block and one rebound, junior Dyllen Domingo was credited with one assist, and junior Ryan Smith collected one rebound.
St. Francis posted a 72-52 tournament-opening victory against visiting Chaminade High of Mission Hills on Jan. 29 as Mosley posted a double-double with 17 rebounds, 11 points, two steals, two assists and one block.
O’Connor poured in 18 points with three rebounds and one steal, while Grant chipped in 11 points, three rebounds and one assist. Henry registered seven points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal, Domingo finished with six points, three steals, three rebounds and three assists, and Kalachian contributed six points and three rebounds. Senior Alessio Calderon and Hickey each recorded three points and two rebounds, junior Liam Selak tallied four rebounds, two points, one steal and one assist, and Mitchell-Egbo produced two points and two rebounds. Junior Aaron Matthews scored two points, Childs had two rebounds, one point and one steal, and Smith collected four rebounds.
St. Francis, which finished fifth in league with a 3-4 record (19-10 overall), opened the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs at Pacifica Christian Orange County of Newport Beach (18-10 overall) on Feb. 7; the game ended after the Outlook Valley Sun’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. If victorious, the Golden Knights would advance to the second round and battle Windward High of Los Angeles (25-3) on Feb. 9.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

The Wolves defeated visiting Pasadena Polytechnic 53-44 in their Prep League and regular-season finale on Feb. 1.
Senior William Bigby poured in 22 points, while senior Henry Morrison scored 18 points. Senior Noah Willingham chipped in six points, while senior Steven Ng and junior Lawson Holland each finished with three points.
Flintridge Prep lost to visiting Pilibos High of Los Angeles 62-49 in a nonleague game on Jan. 29.
Morrison tallied 21 points, while Holland registered 17 points. Bigby contributed eight points, while Noah Willingham recorded three points.
The Wolves, who finished the season as co-league champions with a 7-1 record (21-6 overall), opened the CIF Southern Section Division II-A playoffs by hosting San Gabriel Academy (17-9) on Feb. 7; the game ended after the Outlook Valley Sun’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. If victorious, Flintridge Prep would advance to the second round and meet either Adelanto (22-6) or Lakewood (20-8) on Feb. 9.
