La Cañada Girls’ Basketball Eyes CIF Playoff Opener

The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ basketball team defeated host San Marino 63-46 in a Rio Hondo League game on Feb. 1.
Sophomore Emma Sengul poured in 12 points with four rebounds, one block, one steal and one assist, while junior Jennifer Musso registered 12 points, three steals, two rebounds and two assists. Senior Andrianna Pitsos tallied 11 points, two rebounds, one block, one steal and one assist, while sophomore Madison Hunt contributed 10 points, nine rebounds, four blocks, three steals and two assists. Junior Sydney Magtoto recorded seven points, five rebounds, four steals and four assists, while sophomore Malia Harney finished with six points, three rebounds, two blocks and one steal. Senior Isabella Chividjian tallied three points, two rebounds and one assist, while senior Talia Miyamoto chipped in two points and two steals.
The Spartans routed visiting Blair High of Pasadena 60-14 in a league game on Jan. 30 as Sengul contributed 16 points, two steals, one block, one rebound and one assist.
Musso poured in 12 points with four steals, four rebounds, four assists and two blocks, while Pitsos registered 10 points, four steals, three assists and one rebound. Harney recorded seven points, six rebounds and two blocks, Hunt tallied six points, three rebounds and one block, and freshman Violet Waugh finished with five points, three rebounds and one steal. Miyamoto produced five rebounds, two points, two assists and one steal, while Sydney Magtoto tallied four rebounds, two points and two steals. Chividjian collected six rebounds, freshman Olivia Abramian was credited with two rebounds, and junior Ella Magtoto and freshman Tessa Choi each had one rebound.
La Cañada, which finished second in league with an 8-2 record (15-9 overall), will host Valencia of Santa Clarita (13-11 overall) for its CIF Southern Section Division III-AA opener on Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. If victorious, the Spartans would visit Oak Park (16-7 overall) for a second-round matchup on Feb. 10.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

The Wolves defeated visiting Pasadena Polytechnic 50-8 to secure the Prep League title on Feb. 1.
Sophomore Maddie Smith finished with 12 points, six rebounds and three steals, while freshman Hailey Louie poured in 10 points. Senior Izzie Chan recorded seven points, five rebounds and three steals, while sophomore Akemi Fu tallied seven points and seven rebounds. Freshman Addison Lee chipped in four points, while senior Kassidy Huie scored three points. Junior Olivia Childs, sophomore Pressley Huie and freshman Megan Quoch each registered two points, while senior Cat Baldocchi had one point.
The Wolves posted a 56-33 league victory over visiting Providence High of Burbank on Jan. 29.
Smith poured in 19 points with five steals to surpass 1,000 career points scored, while Fu posted a double-double with 13 rebounds and 11 points. Childs finished with seven rebounds and six points, while Pressley Huie chipped in six points. Quoch scored five points, while junior Gigi Mastras, freshman Miya Naruko and Louie each had three points.
Flintridge Prep, which finished the regular season as undefeated league champions with a 12-0 record (24-1 overall), will host Calabasas (12-12) for its CIF Southern Section Division II-AA opener on Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. If victorious, the Wolves would advance to the second round and meet either Glendora (24-4) or South Pasadena (24-4) on Feb. 10.


FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART
The Tologs lost at Notre Dame Academy in Los Angeles 45-31 in their Sunshine League and regular-season finale on Feb. 1. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
FSHA lost to visiting Immaculate Heart High of Los Angeles in overtime 51-44 in a league game on Jan. 30 as freshman Emily Petrosyan poured in 15 points.
Senior Isabelle Risha registered 19 rebounds and nine points, while junior Ava Nawrocki tallied 15 rebounds and eight points. Sophomore Bella Hagobian chipped in six points, junior Amelie Kock scored four points and sophomore Ruzanna Margaryan had two points.
Flintridge Sacred Heart lost at Louisville High in Woodland Hills 62-26 in a league game on Jan. 23. Individual statistics were not reported to Outlook Valley Sun.
The Tologs finished the campaign fifth in league with a 1-7 record (9-14 overall).
