Baseball: Loughrin’s Two-Run Walk-Off Lifts La Cañada

The La Cañada High School varsity baseball team tied visiting Excelsior Charter of Victorville, 4-4, in a nonleague game on Feb. 26 that was called early due to rain.
Freshman Joe Bell pitched a four-inning complete game, allowing four runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Sophomore Will Park registered a triple, a run and a walk, while sophomore Finn Flower-Hogan finished with a hit, a run and a walk. Junior Leon Chen recorded a hit and an RBI, while freshman Austin Loughrin contributed a hit and a stolen base. Logan Wong tallied one RBI and a run, while junior Tyler Breckhemier scored a run.
The Spartans picked up a narrow 5-4 nonleague victory over visiting San Luis Obispo on Feb. 23. Loughrin delivered the game-winner, recording a pair of RBIs on a walk-off base hit with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Breckhemier went 2-for-2 with two walks, an RBI and a run, while Park went 2-for-4 with a run. Flower-Hogan registered a hit, two runs, two walks and an RBI, while sophomore Matt Miller walked twice, scored a run and stole a base.
Junior Shan Gupta pitched three innings, allowing one earned run on three walks and two hits with four strikeouts. Sophomore Scott Burns allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits and one walk with four strikeouts. Junior Seth Larsen pitched a scoreless inning with one strikeout, one walk and no hits.
La Cañada (3-0-1 overall) will host Arroyo High of El Monte for a nonleague game on Feb. 29 at 3:30 p.m. before opening Rio Hondo League action against visiting Monrovia on March 4.

ST. FRANCIS

St Francis High School senior Callum Clark had one strikeout in 12 innings during a nonleague matchup against Thousand Oaks on Feb 22

The Golden Knights picked up a 7-3 nonleague victory over visiting Thousand Oaks on Feb. 22.
Senior Holden Deitch registered a hit, three RBIs and a run, while junior Jordan Lewallen contributed a double, two runs and a stolen base. Senior John Calmette tallied a hit, an RBI, a run and a walk, while senior Jordan Viramontes and junior Jayden Kim recorded a hit, an RBI and a run. Junior Dominik Hidalgo produced a hit, a run and a walk, senior Brody Ruyle had a hit and an RBI, and junior Samuel Rodriguez walked once.
Junior Noah Aguilar-Tanphanich allowed one earned run on three hits and three walks with a pair of strikeouts across three innings on the mound. Senior Aaron Hernandez struck out three batters in 1 1/3 innings, while senior Callum Clark had one strikeout over 1 2/3 innings pitched. Senior Kal-El Holguin allowed two earned runs one two hits and one walk with one strikeout in one inning.
St. Francis lost to visiting Hart High of Santa Clarita 5-2 in its Easton Tournament finale on Feb. 21.
Calmette went 2-for-2 with a triple and a run, while Viramontes registered a double and an RBI. Lewallen recorded a hit and an RBI, while Deitch tallied a base hit. Ruyle walked once and scored a run, while Kim stole a base.
Sophomore Aiden Mahoney struck out two batters across four and two-thirds innings, while senior James Mishler pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief.
St. Francis (4-2) will visit Harvard-Westlake High in Studio City for a Mission League game on March 5 at 3 p.m. before hosting the Wolverines on March 6.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves lost at San Marino 6-1 in their Dave Moore Tournament finale on Feb. 24.
Junior Rowan Schaeffer pitched five innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits and one walk with two strikeouts. Junior Calvin Chen tallied a hit, an RBI and a walk, while junior Will Koh recorded a double. Sophomore Will Grable produced a base hit and a walk, while freshman Nicholas Aparicio walked once.
Flintridge Prep was shut out at Marshall Fundamental in Pasadena 5-0 in a tournament game on Feb. 22.
Sophomore Nathan Sanok pitched five innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Junior Greg Sue struck out two batters across one inning of relief. Chen and Grable each tallied a base hit, while Schaeffer walked once.
The Wolves (2-3) will host Pasadena Polytechnic for a Prep League game on March 5 at 3:30 p.m. before visiting Upland for a nonleague doubleheader on March 9.
