Baseball: La Cañada Drops League Opener to Monrovia

The La Cañada High School varsity baseball team lost at Monrovia 11-0 in its Rio Hondo League opener on March 4. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
The Spartans picked up a 7-5 nonleague victory over Arroyo High of El Monte on Feb. 29 as sophomore Will Park went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and two stolen bases.
Sophomore Finn Flower-Hogan registered a hit, two runs and one RBI, freshman Austin Loughrin contributed a hit, two walks, two stolen bases and a run, and junior Leon Chen recorded a hit, an RBI, a walk and a stolen base. Junior Tyler Breckhemier tallied three walks, an RBI, a run and a stolen base, while sophomore Logan Wong produced two walks and two RBIs. Freshman Taylor Parrille walked once, scored a run and collected an RBI, while juniors Raj Anand and Cash Carroll each walked once. Junior Flynn Lewis pitched three scoreless innings with just two hits and no walks. Sophomore Nate Chen pitched 1 1/3 innings with a strikeout, while junior Seth Larsen tossed 1 2/3 innings of relief.
La Cañada (4-1-1 overall, 0-1 in league) will host Temple City for a league game on March 11 at 3:30 p.m. before traveling to San Marino on March 14.

ST. FRANCIS

St Francis High junior Jordan Lewallen had a base hit and scored two runs to help the Golden Knights beat Alemany High in a Mission League game on Feb 28

The Golden Knights defeated visiting Alemany High of Mission Hills 10-8 in a Mission League game on Feb. 28.
Junior Noah Aguilar-Tanphanich pitched 3 2/3 innings with four strikeouts, while sophomore Aiden Mahoney allowed two unearned runs on four walks and two hits with one strikeout over three innings on the mound.
Senior Jordan Viramontes went 2-for-3 with a triple, three RBIs and a walk, while junior Jayden Kim went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Senior Kalani Quiroz went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs, while senior Holden Deitch went 2-for-3 with two runs and a walk. Senior Brody Ruyle recorded a hit, three runs and two walks, junior Jordan Lewallen produced a hit and two runs, and junior Dominik Hidalgo tallied a base hit and a walk. Sophomore Nick Kriebs walked once and scored a run, senior John Calmette walked twice, and senior Kal-El Holguin walked once.

Deitch went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Ruyle went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks, and Calmette went 2-for-4. Lewallen contributed a hit and a run, Viramontes registered a base hit and a walk, and Holguin and Kim each walked once.
Senior Lucas Favretto struck out two batters across three innings on the mound. Senior Aaron Hernandez struck out two batters across two innings, while senior James Mishler pitched one inning with two strikeouts.
St. Francis (5-3, 1-1) will visit Harvard-Westlake High in Studio City for a league game on March 8 at 3 p.m. before traveling to Sierra Canyon High in Chatsworth on March 12.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves narrowly lost at Providence High in Burbank 2-1 in a Prep League game on Feb. 28.
Junior Rowan Schaeffer pitched a six-inning complete game, allowing two earned runs on four hits and no walks with five strikeouts.
Junior Calvin Chen recorded a hit, an RBI and a walk, while freshman Nicholas Aparicio tallied a base hit. Junior Will Koh walked once and scored a run, senior George Hayes walked once and stole a base, and junior Brian Xu and sophomore Will Grable walked once.
Flintridge Prep secured an 8-2 victory at Palos Verdes Chadwick in its league opener on Feb. 27.
Junior Casey Augenstein pitched three scoreless innings with two hits, one walk and one strikeout. Xu, who had an RBI, a run and a walk, pitched four innings with three strikeouts.
Schaeffer went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, a run and a walk, Koh went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, and Aparicio went 2-for-5. Freshman Christopher Chino registered a double and two RBIs, Chen contributed a hit, two walks, two runs and one RBI, and sophomore Nathan Sanok tallied a hit and a run. Hayes recorded an RBI, a run and a walk, while Grable finished with three walks.
The Wolves (3-4, 1-1) will visit Upland for a nonleague doubleheader on March 9 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. before resuming league play at Providence High on March 12.
