Gold Award Project Addresses Lack of Independence

Sydney Magtoto, a La Cañada High School junior and Girl Scout from Troop 5431, has led a groundbreaking initiative to address the lack of independence faced by individuals with disabilities in accessing public transportation for her Girl Scout Gold Award Project this year.

Recognizing the profound impact of limited knowledge and discrimination within the system, Magtoto developed a concise seven-part curriculum tailored specifically to their needs.

Through hands-on education and practical experience, she empowers participants to navigate public transit confidently, fostering greater independence and breaking down barriers to mobility. Magtoto aims to pave the way for a more inclusive society, ensuring that all individuals, regardless of disability, have equitable access to safe, reliable and affordable transportation.
