La Cañada Presbyterian Church Presents Mozart Concert for Holy Week

The La Cañada Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir and Orchestra will fill the sanctuary with the music of Mozart composed for Holy Week and Easter on Sunday, March 24, at 2 p.m.
Featured works include the “Solemn Vespers for the Confessor, K.339,” dedicated to St. Rupert, the patron saint of the city of Salzburg, and premiered during Holy Week. “Mass in C, K.317,” better known as “Coronation Mass,” composed for Easter, April 4, 1779, will also be performed.
Mozart’s work with alternating choir and soloists and its brass fanfares unfolds with the brilliance and the sumptuousness of a grand opera finale.
Conducting the concert is LCPC music director Jack Lantz, and soloists include Rebecca Sjöwall, Kimberly Poli, Matthew Thomas and Mark Beasom.
Lantz will discuss the background of Mozart’s love-hate relationship with his hometown, Salzburg, and his boss, Archbishop Colloredo, of Salzburg Cathedral before the concert at 1:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary and online.
The event is free, and for those who cannot attend in-person, the concert and pre-concert lecture will be livestreamed at live.lacanadapc.org.
La Cañada Presbyterian Church is located at 626 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada Flintridge.
