La Cañada Flintridge Chamber Offering Hillgren Scholarship

Applications are now being accepted for the O. Warren Hillgren Memorial Scholarship, administered by the La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce and Community Association.
Hillgren strongly believed in the nation’s public education system and wished to encourage individual students wherever possible.
He also was a tireless advocate of community service and free enterprise and believed it was both an obligation and a privilege to be able to contribute to the betterment of one’s community. Hillgren was the founding father of La Cañada Flintridge and mayor in 1978. He also served as chairman of the board of the Chamber in 1976, the year the city attained cityhood.
The O. Warren Hillgren scholarship, in the amount of $1,000, will be awarded by the La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce based on merit, which includes excellence in academics, character, extracurricular school activities, community service and/or athletics. Special consideration shall be given to the candidate’s expertise, further involvement with the local business community, aptitude for business entrepreneurship, and commercial enterprise consistent with the values stated above.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens and seniors in good standing at La Cañada High School. Deadline to submit an application and a 200-word essay is Wednesday, April 17, by 4 p.m. to the Chamber office or the principal’s office at La Cañada High School.
