USC Verdugo Hills Hospital welcomed 78 students from 11 local high schools from La Cañada Flintridge, Pasadena and Glendale for the hospital’s annual Healthcare Day of Discovery on April 19.
High school students interested in health care careers were invited to participate in an interactive day featuring professional career panels and hands-on activities.
USC-VHH’s Healthcare Day of Discovery introduces students to diverse career opportunities in health care, spanning science, nursing, information technology and business administration. As students approach college and post-high school decisions, this event provides invaluable insights into various career paths within the industry.
“Events like Healthcare Day of Discovery are vital for our community because they not only inspire young minds to explore careers in health care, but also foster a deeper connection between our hospital and the next generation of caregivers,” said Marie Filipian, community benefit manager at USC-VHH.
Throughout the day, students engaged in interactive sessions, including professional health care career panels, and hands-on training such as performing CPR, taking vitals, preparing a sterile IV and conducting carotid artery screening. This immersive experience provided students with practical insights into fundamental frontline tasks, allowing them to better envision professional possibilities.
