Boys’ Volleyball: Flintridge Prep Outlasts Saugus in CIF Matchup

The Flintridge Prep varsity boys’ volleyball team secured a thrilling five-set victory over visiting Saugus, 25-22, 18-25, 25-20, 22-25, 17-15, in its CIF Southern Section Division V second-round matchup on April 27.
Senior Warren Nam contributed 33 assists, 19 digs and two kills, while sophomore Kyle Yun racked up 18 kills, 13 digs, three blocks and one assist. Freshman Nicholas Smith finished with 16 kills, seven digs and one assist, senior Roderick Liu tallied 15 digs and five assists, and sophomore Dylan Choi produced 13 digs and two assists. Senior Preston Chen recorded eight kills and five digs, while sophomore Zachary Tsai registered six kills and one block. Junior Kai Belzer chipped in three kills and one dig, junior juniors Christopher Hioe was credited with one assist and one dig, and freshman Milo Shin had one dig.
The Wolves picked up a four-game victory over visiting Bishop Diego High of Santa Barbara, 25-17, 25-22, 19-25, 25-19, in their CIF Division V opener on April 25, as Nam racked up 46 assists, 15 digs and one ace.
Yun finished with 22 kills, 11 digs, two aces and one block, Smith registered 15 kills, 11 digs and three blocks, and Liu tallied 19 digs, three aces and three assists. Belzer contributed nine kills and two digs, while Choi recorded eight digs and seven kills. Shin collected eight digs, junior Peter Jordan had seven digs and one block, and Chen produced three digs and one kill.
Flintridge Prep swept host Rio Hondo Prep in Arcadia, 25-20, 25-23, 25-13, in their regular season finale on April 17. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
The Wolves swept visiting Providence High of Burbank, 25-15, 25-21, 25-17, in a Prep League match on April 16.
Yun registered 10 kills, six digs and one block, while Nam racked up 19 assists, six digs and one kill. Liu finished with 13 digs and four assists, while Choi contributed 12 digs, four kills, two aces and one assist. Shin was credited with nine assists and four digs, Smith recorded five kills and three blocks, and Tsai chipped in four kills. Belzer produced three kills, one block and one dig, while Hioe and junior William Jamison each tallied two kills and one dig. Junior Anthony Chang had two aces and one dig, senior Steven Ng notched two kills, and junior Arno Terzian collected two digs. Chen had one kill, while senior Ryan Ginn had one ace.
Flintridge Prep, which finished second in league with a 6-2 record (15-9 overall), hosted Ramona High of Riverside on May 1; the CIF Division V quarterfinal match ended after the Outlook Valley Sun’s press deadline and will be included in the next issue. If victorious, the Wolves would advance to the semifinals and meet either Sage Hill (18-8 overall) or Rancho Verde High of Moreno Valley (27-6) on May 4.

ST. FRANCIS
The Golden Knights suffered a four-game loss at Woodrow Wilson High in Long Beach in their CIF Southern Section Division II opener on April 25. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
SFHS finished the campaign third in the Mission League with a 4-2 record (19-9 overall).
