Swimming: Kim Wins CIF Crown as Area Teams Compete at Finals

Area high schools were represented by standout individuals at the CIF Southern Section Swimming & Diving Championships at Mt. San Antonio College on May 4.
La Cañada High and Flintridge Prep competed in Division I, FSHA went up against Division II contenders and St. Francis battled against Division III swimmers.

LA CAÑADA
In the boys’ Division I competition, Pierce O’Grady secured second place with a time of 1 minute, 35.58 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle. He also finished second in 500 free with a time of 4:22.86.
Ryan Makouar finished third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 47.91, while also taking 10th in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:50.62.
The 400 free relay team of Sam Baker, Jeffrey Wang, Pierce O’Grady and Makouar placed 10th with a time of 3:06.70. Additionally, the 200 free relay team, featuring the same members, finished 12th with a time of 1:26.56.
In the girls’ Division I competitions, Mia Bugarin finished sixth in the 500 free with a time of 4:59.45. In the 1-meter diving event, Emi Machida secured eighth with a score of 433.
The 400 free relay team of Meredith O’Grady, Lilli Perner, Avalon Sanders and Bugarin, finished 13th with a time of 3:33.37.
Bugarin placed 15th in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.88, while Meredith O’Grady finished 18th with a time of 1:52.73. Additionally, Meredith O’Grady was 16th with a time of 52.66 in the 100 free.
In the all-inclusive events, Nevrik Gharamanians and Emma Hayashi won the 2×50 free relay with a time of 1:13.59, while Elliott Lee and Theo Lee finished second with a time of 1:24.23.
In the 50 free, Jack Driscoll won with a time of 57.65. He also finished second in the 100 free with a time of 2:16.84.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
In the girls’ Division I competitions, Addie Gish, Megan Lee, Dylan Docter and Natalie Walklett placed second in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:36.45. The 400 free relay team of Charlotte Fishman, Megan Lee, Gish and Walklett finished 10th with a time of 3:29.89.
Gish secured third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.93 seconds, while Walklett finished fourth with a time of 1:02.10.
Walklett finished fourth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.86, Gish placed 10th in the 200 free with a time of 1:50.15, and Megan Lee took 15th in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:06.33 time.
In the boys’ Division III competitions, Athan Boutakidis, Henry Yang, Kai Timbadia and Ridley Tolleson won the 200 free relay, clocking in at 1:26.74. In the 400 free relay, Isaac Jung, Boutakidis, Tolleson and Yang placed second with a time of 3:13.20.
Yang finished third in the 200 IM with a time of 1:56.75. In the 100 breaststroke, Yang also placed third with a time of 57.56.
Jung finished sixth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.13, while also placing ninth in the 200 free with a time of 1:50.45. Tolleson was 14th in the 50 free with a time of 22:32.

ST. FRANCIS
In the boys’ Division III competitions, Nathan Kim won the 100 backstroke with a time of 48.64 seconds. He also finished second in the 100 free with a time of 44.08.
The 200 free relay team of Donovan Esquivel, Jack Pemberton, Danial Jamshidi and Owen Bollert placed ninth with a time of 1:33.77. Owen Bollert was 16th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.33.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART
In the girls’ Division II competition, Reese Artura finished 11th with a 24.85 time in the 50 free.
The CIF State Swimming & Diving Championships will be held at the Clovis Olympic Swim Complex at Clovis West High School on Thursday, May 9 through Saturday, May 11.
The diving finals are slated for May 9, while prelims and finals are scheduled for the following days.
The Swimming and Paralympic Finals begin Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
