The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ tennis team sent individuals to compete in the Rio Hondo League finals last week as Lance Morgan defeated teammate Konan Sahara, 6-3, 6-2, to win the singles tournament.
Morgan defeated Temple City’s Bryan Huang, 8-1,
before beating San Marino’s Chris Deng in the semifinals, 6-0, 6-1.
Meanwhile, LC’s Sahara swept Monrovia’s Josh McClan, 8-0, defeated South Pasadena’s Emilio Lois, 8-1, and upset San Marino’s Brian Hang in the semifinals, 4-6, 6-3, 10-1. Justin Son also competed in the singles tournament but was eliminated in the first round after falling to South Pasadena’s Lucas Cornforth, 8-2.
The LCHS doubles team of Blake and Cayden Chang defeated South Pasadena’s Mathew Ou and Samuel Xu in the first round, 8-4, before being ousted in the following round by San Marino’s double team, 8-0. The doubles teams of Aaron Magtoto and Dylan Luu (8-0) and Spencer Moravec and David Lee (8-1) each collected first-round victories.
LCHS hosted Santa Margarita High of Rancho Santa Margarita for its CIF-Southern Section Division I first-round opener yesterday; the match ended after the Outlook Valley Sun’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. If victorious, the Spartans (9-1 in league, 12-1 overall) would advance to the second round at Calabasas (13-3) on Friday, May 5.
