Date of Death

David Alan Thompson, of La Cañada, California, passed away, peacefully, on November 10, 2023. He was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Elizabethtown College, advanced to medical school at George Washington University, and completed a study abroad at University College London. David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, a loyal friend, and an esteemed member of the community.
Throughout his life, David pursued a distinguished career as a neurologist — volunteering in Africa and opening a sleep center at Glendale Adventist Hospital — and as chief neurologist at the many hospitals where he was employed. He exhibited an unwavering allegiance to his profession. His tireless efforts and unflagging commitment were unmatched, establishing him as a beacon of hope and comfort for countless patients and their families.
David’s character was marked by his love for his family, his strong work ethic, and his steadfast care and compassion. He possessed a stoic nature, which allowed him to face life’s challenges with relentless strength and resilience. Additionally, his wit and tenacity added a touch of charm to his personality, endearing him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In his leisure time, David found solace in pursuits, such as playing tennis, skiing, and immersing himself in the great outdoors. However, his greatest joy came from spending quality time with his beloved family. Together, they created cherished memories, which will be forever etched in their hearts. Moreover, David had an insatiable curiosity for the world, which led him to explore different cultures and to expand his horizons through travel. In addition to his expertise, as a neurologist, his broad depth of general knowledge was extraordinary.
David leaves behind a legacy of love, selflessness, and resolute courage, valiantly fighting lymphoma for the past six years, until the very end. He is survived by his devoted wife, Nora, and their children, Andres (Lynne), Kara, Mark (Nicole), Laura, and his granddaughters, Zoey and Sofia. David felt immensely blessed, to be able to relish time with his dear grandson, Brooks. He also is fondly remembered by his brother, Bruce, and sister, Marthalee. David was preceded in death by his loving mother, Bertha Delp Thompson, and his father, Wayne Walter Thompson.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, in Pasadena, where family, friends, and colleagues will join together to honor and remember David’s extraordinary life. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to any charity dedicated to fighting cancer, a cause that David held close to his heart.
David Alan Thompson’s memory will forever be treasured by those whose lives he touched with his kindness, compassion, and purposeful, unshakable, and admirable adherence. While his presence will be deeply missed, his legacy will continue to inspire and guide us all.
