Baseball: Spartans Come Up Short in League Matchups

The La Cañada High School varsity baseball team narrowly lost at Temple City 2-1 in a Rio Hondo League game on April 15.
The Spartans lost in extra innings at South Pasadena 6-5 in a league game on April 11. LCHS was previously shut out at South Pasadena 1-0 in a league game on April 9. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
La Cañada (6-11-1 overall, 1-8 in league) will host San Marino for a league game on April 22 at 3:30 p.m. before visiting the Titans for its regular-season finale on April 25.

ST. FRANCIS

St Francis senior John Calmette registered a hit and a walk during a Mission League game against Sherman Oaks Notre Dame on April 10

The Golden Knights lost to visiting Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 6-4 in a Mission League game on April 10 as senior Kalani Quiroz went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run.
Senior Jordan Viramontes produced a hit, a walk and a run, while sophomore Bobby Milton contributed a hit and a run. Senior John Calmette registered a hit and a walk, while juniors Jayden Kim and Dane Shepard each tallied a hit. Junior Jackson Pratt walked once and scored a run, while senior Holden Deitch walked once. Sophomore Aiden Mahoney pitched 3 1/3 innings with three strikeouts, while senior Aaron Hernandez pitched 1 2/3 innings with one strikeout. Junior Noah Aguilar-Tanphanich pitched one inning with one strikeout, while senior Kal-El Holguin pitched one scoreless inning.
St. Francis blanked host Notre Dame 1-0 in a league game on April 9 as Quiroz pitched a complete game shutout with four strikeouts, six hits and two walks.
Senior Brody Ruyle recorded a hit, Calmette finished with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base, and Pratt scored a run.
St. Francis (14-9, 6-6) will visit Crespi High in Encino for a league game on April 19 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Chaminade High of West Hills on April 23.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves overwhelmed host Verbum Dei Jesuit High in Los Angeles with a 12-1 nonleague victory on April 13.
Junior Brian Xu, who went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI at the plate, pitched three innings with six strikeouts. Junior Will Koh, who had a double, an RBI and a run at the plate, pitched two innings with three strikeouts. Sophomore Will Grable went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three runs and two RBIs, while junior Ethan Park went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a run and a walk. Junior Calvin Chen tallied a double, two runs, two walks and an RBI, while junior captain Rowan Schaeffer recorded a double, two runs and a walk. Junior Casey Augenstein produced a hit, two RBIs, a run, a walk and a stolen base, while freshman Spancer Rolfe finished with a hit, a run and two stolen bases.
Flintridge Prep blanked host Palos Verdes Chadwick 1-0 in a Prep League game on April 11.
Schaeffer pitched five scoreless innings with three strikeouts, while Grable, who went 2-for-4 with a run and a stolen base at the plate, pitched two hitless innings with three strikeouts. Freshman Nicholas Aparicio went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Xu recorded a hit and a stolen base. Chen and Koh each tallied a base hit, while junior Matthew Chino and sophomore Nathan Sanok each walked once.
The Wolves posted a 10-0 league victory over visiting Palos Verdes Chadwick on April 10.
Junior Greg Sue pitched four innings with two strikeouts, while Augenstein pitched one scoreless inning Grable went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run, Schaeffer went 2-for-4 with two runs and a stolen base, and Koh went 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs. Matthew Chino registered a double, two RBIs and two runs, while Aparicio contributed a hit, three stolen bases, two RBIs and a run. Xu tallied a base hit, Chen and Rolfe each scored a run, and Sanok was credited with an RBI.
Flintridge Prep (11-9, 8-2) will visit Pasadena Polytechnic for a league game on April 19 at 3:45 p.m. before traveling to Monrovia on April 20.
