LCHS Debate Coach Moore Honored

La Cañada High School’s Susan Moore was included this week among the 22 speech and debate coaches to be named winners of the Diamond Coach Award by the National Speech & Debate Association.

The National Speech & Debate Association’s Honor Society has been recognizing student and coach achievements since 1925 with the Diamond Award, which highlights a professional career that combines excellence and longevity in speech and debate.
Moore and the other honorees will be recognized at the National Speech & Debate Tournament in Birmingham, Ala., on June 22.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to work with so many talented and dedicated students, their supportive families, and an administrative team that continues to support our efforts,” said Moore, an English teacher who has coached the LCHS team since 2010.
Since then, the group has begun to compete in tournaments nationally and locally in speech, debate and policy competitions. It has grown to include more than 80 members.
To earn a Diamond Award, a coach must be a member of the National Speech & Debate Association for at least five years. Each earns additional Diamond levels the more points received in the Honor Society.
