Guests at the 19th annual Greater Los Angeles Area Council of Boy Scouts of America Women of Eagle Scout Brunch will be treated to an elegant and motivating event on Saturday, May 6, at the San Gabriel Country Club in San Gabriel. A reception will be held at 10:30 a.m. followed by a luncheon and the program at 11:15 a.m.
Boy Scouts from various troops in the San Gabriel Valley will lead the pledge of allegiance, followed by a memorable rendition of the national anthem played by Life Scout Henry Vaughn, a sophomore at La Cañada High School from Troop 507, on the bugle. There will also be instrumental and vocal musical entertainment throughout the reception and luncheon provided by students from La Cañada High School, led by Eagle Scout Sean Segal, a senior from Troop 509. Segal, who will attend USC in the fall, plays the guitar, piano, and drums.
Eagle Scout Omkar Rao, son of Purush and Krishna Rao, and an Eagle Scout from San Marino Troop 359, will share his experiences as a Tiger Cub up the path to the rank of Eagle. Rao’s interest in giving back to Club 21, a support group for children with Down syndrome, motivated him to plan his Eagle project there, where he repainted a large conference room and built media and storage carts for the nonprofit group’s use. He earned 28 merit badges and 43 nights of camping. Wind UnderTheir Wings founder Sue Newton will present the invocation. Newly appointed Scout executive Jeff Hunt will give the annual “State of the San Gabriel Valley Council.”
Capping the brunch will be a motivating talk presented by Raymond Bell, news producer with KCBS-2/KCAL-9. Bell is actively involved in “We Are Our Brothers Keeper,” which annually feeds the homeless in L.A.’s downtown Skid Row area.
The committee welcomes the community to attend and honor the Women Behind the Eagle Scouts.
The cost is $60 per person and includes pre-luncheon refreshments, lunch, mementos and supports the Boy Scouts of America. Invitations and/or additional information may be obtained by contacting Cecilia Nazarian at the Greater Los Angeles Area Council of Boy Scouts of America at (213) 413-4400, ext. 311, or cecilia.nazarian@scouting.org. Registration is also available online at glaacbsa.org/wings_event.
