Deputies worked through the night, but their efforts were rewarded with the arrest of five suspected residential burglars this week.
The nabbing was thanks to a vigilant resident in the 400 block of Paulette Place, whose home security system was triggered at 8:19 p.m. on Tuesday while he was away and prompted him to remotely check the live feeds of his home’s security cameras. He saw two juvenile boys searching through his home, and he called the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“Turn them on and don’t ignore them if they go off,” Sgt. Alan Chu said of security alarm systems.
The two boys fled as deputies arrived at the home, but one was immediately arrested. The second boy escaped as containment was established and a helicopter was called in. During that search, deputies found and arrested a man who was hiding in a vehicle parked in front of the burglarized home.
Two additional men were arrested after they tried to drive through the containment setup on the block.
“During questioning, there was a questionable reason as to why they were in the area,” Chu explained.
Deputies finally arrested the boy who escaped after a resident called the Sheriff’s Station reporting that he had emerged from a trail near Paulette Place at 6 a.m. on Wednesday.
Investigators continued to speak with the suspects Wednesday and believe they are all connected with this burglary. All five hail from the same neighborhood in South Los Angeles.
Chu said they were also working to see if they could be involved with any of the other residential burglaries that have recently occurred in La Cañada Flintridge.
“We are working on that right now,” he said. “Probably a few, but not all of them.”
Deputies have recovered most of the stolen items.
