The Thursday Club Scholarship Foundation recently presented 12 local seniors with scholarships and one student with the Greenawalt Foundation Scholarship. The speaker was state Sen. Anthony Portantino, who gave a welcoming speech encouraging the students to be the best that they can be, to remain involved at every level in life and to constantly give back. Becky Lankey presented the awards and mentioned that there were so many qualified applicants that it made the final decisions very difficult. Each student spoke of their high school experiences, sports, art, music and what motivated them to select their college.
After the presentation, the students, parents, mentors, counselors and friends socialized while enjoying traditional tea with sandwiches and desserts. Scholarship committee members include Sheri Morton, Becky Lankey, Sharon Coombs, Kathy Leonard and Patrice Fontes.
