Lanterman Auditorium was recently filled with the sounds of music as young musicians in the Assistance League of Flintridge Instrumental Music Program presented its spring concert over two nights.
Strings instructor Sahak Karapetyan conducted the Beginning Strings in a program that included classical favorites, European folk songs and Beethoven’s beloved “Ode to Joy.” The String Orchestra impressed with selections from Handel and Tchaikovsky, as well as themes from “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.” Ripsi Yepremyan is the assistant in the strings program and pianist Mariana Manukyan accompanied both string groups.
Outstanding Student trophies for strings were presented to Ethan Alvarez-Salazar, Toby Chin, Ashley Dietrich, Joshua Im, Robyn Sverdlik and Sam Wagenaar.
Band instructor John Tegmeyer conducted the Beginning Band and Concert Band in “Celtic Air and Dance No. 2,” “Fires of Mazama” and the theme from “Jurassic Park.”
Trophies for Outstanding Band Students were given to Anna Heur, Siran Khachatourian, Annabelle Larson, Dominic Lorenzana, Justice Nguyen, Zoe Petropoulos, Rachael Salit, Natalie Waterman and Sammy White.
Assistance League of Flintridge has been offering its Instrumental Music program since 1985. For more information about ALF, its many philanthropies and the instrumental music classes offered in summer school, visit alflintridge.org.
