Palm Crest Elementary School 3rd-graders in Kristin McDaniel’s class have flexible seating options this school year. McDaniel applied and received an Instructional Innovation Grant, allowing the school to purchase rocker chairs, wobble stools and wobble cushions. During independent work time, the students choose their flexible seating preference — and enjoy it. Other classrooms also received this new furniture. “It is hard for any student to sit in regular chairs and not have the freedom of movement,” McDaniel said. “The new seating options give them the outlet to move their bodies, and makes them more responsible in their cognitive work because they can wiggle, swivel or rock.”
