Longtime La Cañada Flintridge resident Alma Barba celebrated her 100th birthday, surrounded by friends, family and neighbors on Oct. 1 at a private club in Pasadena.
Barba was born in 1917, in Lexington, Massachusetts. A resident of LCF since May 1956, she remains active and involved locally.
She was a member and past president of the La Cañada Flintridge Women’s Club, a member of Thursday Club, of Children’s’ Home Society and currently is active with Ahead With Horses, a nonprofit that provides therapy, education and recreation through horses to children who are disabled, disadvantaged, at-risk or who have special needs. Barba also volunteers with the La Cañada Assistance League.
She and her husband, Lou, raised their three children, Dan Barba, Lois Madison and Maria Gardner in town. They attended St. Bede’s School, St. Francis High School and Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy.
In attendance at the recent centennial birthday festivities were longtime neighbors, friends, her three children and their spouses, six grandchildren and spouses, and nine great-grandchildren.
