The La Cañada Flintridge-based nonprofit Rainy Day Pennies recently staged a Casino Night fundraiser at CTRL Collective in Pasadena.
The event raised $30,000 toward its goal of sponsoring more than 100 homeless children each year, including providing necessities such as clean clothes, shoes and toiletries. This year, they’ve added a new venture — providing scholarships to children of combat-injured amputee veterans so they may attend the Travis Mills Camp, a national retreat center for re-calibrated veterans and their families, helping them come together to adjust to their new normal.
Rainy Day Pennies, which is spearheaded by Shane and Farrell Foley and their sons, Connor and Quinn, was formalized in 2016 to support those who are less fortunate.
“It is our hope and vision that our boys, and eventually their friends, will continue to get involved in deciding which groups of in-need kids we help over time,” the organization’s website reads. “We are not trying to save the world, we are just trying to show that rubbing a few pennies together can bring a ray of sunlight to a child’s rainy day.”
