The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ soccer team was edged by visiting Torrance Bishop Montgomery in overtime, 2-1, in a CIF-SS Division 4 wildcard match last Thursday, Feb. 10.
Chia Matuska scored the lone goal on a penalty kick while Shania Clorefine led the Spartans with six shots on goal. Goalie Noemi Fusco tallied three saves.
Despite the outcome, LCHS dominated in possession time and created 10 scoring chances.
“It’s one of the best games we have played as a team and unfortunately we just didn’t convert any of our chances,” LCHS head coach Kevin Neumeier said.
Bishop Montgomery scored a golden goal in overtime to send the Spartans home one game into the postseason.
La Cañada finished its season third in the Rio Hondo League standings with a 5-2-3 record (11-4-4 overall).

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves made quick work of their CIF-SS Division 3 first-round opponent by shutting out visiting Canyon High of Canyon Country, 4-0, on Saturday, Feb. 12.
Junior Sage Shurman collected two goals and one assist, junior Nadya Lamarr registered one goal and one assist, and freshman Dagny Marion scored once. Junior Chayse Lim-Ying and freshman Celeste Davila each tallied one assist.
The victory sent Flintridge Prep (14-1-2 overall) to the second round at Santa Barbara High (10-5-6 overall) yesterday; the result was unavailable by the Outlook Valley Sun’s press deadline. If the Wolves were victorious, they are scheduled to match up with either Murrieta Mesa of Murrieta (9-4-3 overall) or El Segundo (12-4-1 overall) in the quarterfinal round on Saturday Feb. 19.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART

The Tologs were shut out at Long Beach Wilson, 1-0, in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs on Saturday, Feb. 12.
For the season, FSHA was led by junior Annamaria Vazquez and sophomore Sachiko Kaneko-Grun, who scored four goals each, while senior Allison Risha and Lainee Irribarren each tallied three assists.
Senior Olivia Ocon was wall in goal as she registered over 100 saves on the season, according to head coach Kathy Desmond.
“Breeana [Gumpert] and I would like to give a shout out to our outstanding senior leaders Allison Risha, Helena Locatelli and Olivia Ocon,” Desmond told the Outlook Valley Sun in an email. “Allison was a team leader all season, both on the field and off, [and] Helena battled back from an injury to play in our last four games and was an important part of securing a place in playoffs. Olivia is an amazing athlete and kept us in many games throughout the season with her incredible saves.”
The Tologs, who tied for third place in the Mission League with Los Angeles Immaculate Heart (2-4-2 league record), ended the season with a 4-8-3 overall record.
