Spartans Win Opening Match, 13-5

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ tennis team opened the season with a 13-5 nonleague victory at Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta last Thursday.
The Spartans only lost one set in singles action as senior Luke Kim, the La Cañada’s No. 2 singles player, swept his three sets 6-1, 6-2, 6-2. The No. 1 singles player, junior Lance Morgan, won two of three sets, 6-0, 6-1, while No. 3 singles player senior Luke Manion won two sets, 6-0, 7-5, before being substituted for senior Rishi Gupta, who won his lone set 6-3.
Junior Aaron Magtoto and sophomore Konan Sahara, the LCHS No. 1 doubles team, swept their opponents 6-2, 6-3, 6-4. The No. 2 team of senior Aditya Desai and junior Dylan Gupta won one set 6-1, while the No. 3 team of senior Aidan Robinson and sophomore Spencer Moravec also tallied one set win, 6-4.
The Spartans (1-0 overall record) are scheduled to host St. Francis in a nonleague match on Thursday, Feb. 24, at 3 p.m.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
After a narrow loss the day before, the Wolves bounced back beautifully by shutting out host Alhambra, 18-0, last Thursday. Flintridge Prep (1-1 overall) previously tied host Burbank, 9-9, but lost in total games, 75-70, last Wednesday. No individual statistics were reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
The Wolves are scheduled to visit La Salle in a nonleague matchup on Thursday, Feb. 24, at 3:30 p.m.

ST. FRANCIS
The Golden Knights are scheduled to open the season by visiting La Cañada on Thursday, Feb. 24, at 3 p.m. St. Francis will attempt to move up in the Mission League standings after placing third last year with a 6-4 record.
