Pickleball Access Should Be Expanded

First published in the March 31 print issue of the Outlook Valley Sun.

On April 5, it is my understanding that our City Council will discuss extending the Pickleball pilot program at Glenhaven Park until permanent courts can be built at Discovery Park.
Glenhaven presently offers four days of play during varied hours for a total of 16 hours.
The demand to play this activity increases each week with the La Cañada Flintridge Pickleball Association (LCFPA) managing the playing time at Glenhaven so that all players receive even playing time within the allotted hours
Out of respect to the surrounding neighbors LCFPA has not widely publicized the Glenhaven facility and refrained from offering clinics that would enable a larger population of local residents, especially seniors, to participate in the sport.
It is my hope that the City Council will consider increasing the overall number of days but reduce the number of hours from 16 to 12.5 hours. Specifics will be presented at our City Council meeting on April 5.
