LCPC Presents Spirit of America Concert

First published in the June 23 print issue of the Outlook Valley Sun.

This year’s Americana 2022 concert includes salutes to America, veterans as well as common and uncommon Americans as part of a concert titled “Americana 2022: Spirit of America” on Sunday, June 26, at 2 p.m. La Cañada Presbyterian Church, 626 Foothill Blvd.
The concert will feature many favorites including “America the Beautiful,” selections from “West Side Story,” “On a Wonderful Day Like Today,” “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” “This Land Is Your Land,” “Stars and Stripes Forever” and a medley of Irving Berlin songs.
In addition to Aaron Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man,” the orchestra will perform Joan Tower’s “Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman No. 6” in honor of the many women who have been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The concert will also plumb the foundations of our country with a survey of Paul Revere’s Ride “One If By Land, Two If By Sea,” the familiar march “E Pluribus Unum” and the national hymn “God of Our Fathers.”
Irrepressible Tyler Wright, former CEO of YMCA of the Foothills, will return as the host and emcee. The concert will feature more than 100 singers and orchestra members and will include a surprise finale.
Prior to the concert, at 1:30 p.m., LCPC’s Director of Music and Worship Arts Jack Lantz will present a talk about the history and significance of the concert music.
The concert is free. Free child care for younger children will be provided.
Masking and proof of full vaccination are required for everyone attending LCPC concerts as well as all staff and artists working the events.
For those who cannot attend in person, the concert and pre-concert lecture will be livestreamed. Use the following link to watch: live.lacanadapc.org.
