Spartans Fall to 1-2 After Nonleague Loss

The La Cañada High School varsity football team lost a nonleague game to visiting Franklin High of Los Angeles, 44-22, last Friday evening. The undefeated Panthers jumped to a 37-14 lead at halftime as the Spartans’ overall record fell to 1-2.
Senior Corey Cheung turned in a stellar effort for LCHS, rushing for a game-high 152 yards on 18 carries with a pair of touchdowns while adding two catches for 35 yards. He also produced a team-high nine tackles on defense with a sack.
Junior quarterback Macky Plocher was nine of 22 passing for 149 yards with a touchdown in the air while adding 52 rushing yards on six carries. Juniors Luke Raulli and Hayden Dancsecs each made three catches for 63 and 57 yards, respectively, and senior Anthony Venneri had one seven-yard reception while posting eight tackles on defense. Junior Cayden Klein carried once for one yard with a touchdown while making four tackles on defense.
Senior Mateo Gallegos amassed eight tackles and a nine-yard interception, while sophomore Josh Carruthers recorded seven tackles. Senior Jake Adkins and junior Lorenz Bayug each posted six tackles, senior Andrew Gevorgian registered four tackles and a sack, and junior Paulos Cucullu notched four tackles. Senior Max Russakow finished with three tackles, while sophomores Syem Bangash, Scott Carey and Spencer Turner each had one tackle.
LCHS will look to snap its current two-game losing streak when it travels to Santa Paula for a nonleague game on Friday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m.
