During the La Cañada Congregational Church’s 126th annual meeting, Phil Markgraf (left) passes the gavel to Dr. Jim Luck, who was elected moderator for the ensuing year. The church formed in 1897, making it the oldest in the valley but the Congregational Church has been in business since 1620 when the Pilgrims (English settlers) came to America on the Mayflower, establishing the Plymouth Colony in what is today, Plymouth, Massachusetts. The state of California proclaimed the institution in LCF a historic landmark in 1969.
