LCHS, Flintridge Prep, FSHA Extend Win Streaks

The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ basketball team won its fourth straight game by beating host San Marino, 54-37, in a Rio Hondo League game on Monday.
Sophomore Jennifer Musso registered 15 points, five steals, four assists and three rebounds while senior Mia Oakley-Stilson poured in 14 points with six boards, two assists and one steal. Junior Andrianna Pitsos tallied nine points, five steals, two rebounds and one assist, freshman Madison Hunt finished with seven points, four boards and two steals, and junior Isabella Chividjian recorded five points and four rebounds. Junior Talia Miyamoto scored four points with seven boards and two assists while sophomore Sydney Magtoto had one block
The Spartans defeated host Temple City, 45-36, in a league game last Wednesday as Musso racked up 20 points, five rebounds, three assists and one steal. Pitsos poured in 10 points with four boards, two steals and one assist, Oakley-Stilson registered five points, two boards and one steal, and Miyamoto tallied four points, three boards, two steals and one assist. Chividjian produced three points, two steals and one rebound, Magtoto scored two points with three boards, and freshman Emma Sengul finished with one point, two steals and one board.
LCHS previously collected a win over Blair High of Pasadena via a forfeit.
The second-place Spartans traveled to first-place South Pasadena for a crucial league rematch yesterday; the game ended after the Outlook Valley Sun’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. La Cañada (14-9 overall, 5-1 in league) will visit Monrovia on Friday, Jan. 27, before concluding the regular season with a pair of home games against San Marino on Tuesday, Jan. 31, and Temple City on Thursday, Feb. 2.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

The Wolves crushed visiting Palos Verdes Chadwick, 60-23, in a Prep League game on Saturday as senior captain Ashley Chea racked up 25 points, four rebounds, two steals and two assists. Freshman Maddie Smith poured in 10 points with one assist while junior captain Izzie Chan scored nine points. Sophomore Gigi Mastras registered seven points, three boards and one steal, sophomore Olivia Childs tallied four points and five rebounds, and junior Kassidy Huie recorded three points, one steal and one assist. Senior Kat Zirn finished with two points and two boards, freshman Akemi Fu collected four rebounds, two steals and two assists, and junior Catherine Baldocchi had three boards.
Flintridge Prep defeated rival host Pasadena Poly, 65-47, in a Prep League game last Friday. The first-place Wolves picked up their 15th straight victory against the Panthers dating back to the 2013-14.
“It always feels good to play Poly. No matter who has a more skilled team that year, we always know that this is going to be a good game. We bring out the best in Poly,” Flintridge Prep head coach Jayme Chan said.
Flintridge Prep scored the opening basket and outscored Poly in each of the first three quarters. A crucial first quarter saw the Wolves quickly take a commanding 21-11 lead on a 10-2 game-opening scoring run. Chea, who drained four of her five 3-pointers and finished with 14 points in the first quarter, racked up a game-high 25 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and six steals.
Smith also had a terrific game and finished with 16 points, eight boards, three steals and one assist. She scored the final two field goals of the first half to swell Flintridge Prep’s lead over Poly to an 18-point margin.
Fu registered nine points, five boards, one steal and one assist while Mastras tallied eight points, one rebound and one assist. Izzie Chan sank a 3-pointer with four steals and one assist, Childs scored two points with three boards and freshman Pressley Huie recorded two points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal. Meanwhile, Kassidy Huie collected six boards and two steals.
Flintridge Prep (20-2 overall, 7-0 in league) will visit sixth-place Westridge School in Pasadena for a league game today at 5 p.m. before visiting Palos Verdes Chadwick for a league rematch on Friday, Jan. 27.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART

The Tologs earned their fifth straight victory by defeating visiting Sacred Heart of Jesus High of Los Angeles, 57-21, in a nonleague game on Saturday.
Sophomore Ava Nawrocki racked up 18 points, nine steals, three rebounds and three assists while senior captain Sophia Heredia registered nine points, 12 boards, nine assists, seven steals and one block. Sophomore Sophia Astacaan scored eight points with 10 rebounds, freshman Bella Hagobian tallied eight points, three assists, two steals and two boards, and junior Isabelle Risha recorded six points, 11 rebounds and three steals. Freshman Grace Adair produced four points, four boards, two steals and one block while senior Cassie Huston posted four points, two rebounds and one steal. Freshman Lori Yacoubian finished with five boards, one steal and one assist, senior Siena Urquiza collected four rebounds, and junior Sophia Durand had one board and one assist.
FSHA routed host Marymount High in Los Angeles, 62-22, in an Angelus League game last Thursday. Senior Meghan Garrity had 15 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals while Astacaan poured in 10 points with seven boards. Nawrocki registered nine points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals, Heredia tallied eight points, six boards, two steals and two assists, and Risha finished with six points, seven rebounds and three steals. Yacoubian recorded five points, three boards, one steal and one assist, senior Ella Rogers scored four points with five rebounds, and Huston produced four points, one steal and one board. Hagobian posted three points, two rebounds, two steals and one assist, Durand collected two assists and one board, and Adair had three rebounds.
The second-place Tologs (13-10 overall, 3-1 in league) will host fifth-place Marymount on Friday, Jan. 27, at 6 p.m.
