Spartans Open Playoffs as Undefeated League Champions

The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ water polo team routed visiting San Marino, 15-2, in its regular-season finale last Thursday to finish with a perfect 10-0 Rio Hondo League record.
Freshman Sofia Korshakovsky registered four goals while senior captain Shereen Emadi tallied two goals for the league champion Spartans. Meanwhile, senior Ellie Lindenfeld, senior Kaley Schmidt, junior captain Kadyn Day, sophomore Lorelei Rocca, sophomore Claire Lin, sophomore Kiley Ku, sophomore Yasmine Martinez, freshman Lilli Perner and freshman Supriya Uniyal each had one goal.
The Spartans crushed host South Pasadena, 17-4, in a league matchup last Tuesday. Emadi recorded five goals while Day finished with four goals. Sophomore Alexis Calix scored three goals, Perner tallied two goals, and Ku, Schmidt and Korshakovsky each had one goal.
LCHS (10-0 in league, 17-6 overall) hosted Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta in its CIF-Southern Section Division III opener on Tuesday; the game ended after the Outlook Valley Sun’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. If victorious, the Spartans would meet either San Dimas (13-15 overall) or Notre Dame High of Sherman Oaks (18-8 overall) in a second-round matchup today. If La Cañada survives the first two rounds, it would advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday, Feb. 11.

The Wolves concluded the regular season on a four-game win streak after posting a pair of Prep League victories last week over Pasadena’s La Salle College Preparatory, 7-6, and Brentwood School of Los Angeles, 15-4. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
League runner-up Flintridge Prep (10-2 in league, 15-9 overall) hosted Glendale (11-17 overall) in its CIF-Southern Section Division V playoff opener on Tuesday; the game ended after the Outlook Valley Sun’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. If victorious, the Wolves would advance to the second round today and battle either Whittier (17-9 overall) or Los Altos of Hacienda Heights (13-6 overall). If Flintridge Prep survives the first two rounds, it would advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday, Feb. 11.

The Tologs defeated visiting Paramount, 22-4, in their regular-season finale last Friday.
FSHA recently picked up a pair of Mission League victories over Marlborough High in Los Angeles, 10-5, and Louisville High of Woodland Hills, 14-6. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
League runner-up Flintridge Sacred Heart (4-1 in league, 20-5 overall) hosted La Salle College Preparatory of Pasadena in its CIF-Southern Section Division IV opener on Tuesday; the game ended after the Outlook Valley Sun’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. If victorious, the Tologs would meet either Carpinteria (16-6 overall) or Buena High of Ventura (15-14 overall) in a second-round matchup Thursday. If FSHA survives the first two rounds, it would advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday, Feb. 11.
