Spartans Lose to Cantwell-Sacred Heart, 44-35

The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ basketball team lost to visiting Montebello Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary High, 44-35, in its CIF-Southern Section Division 3A second-round playoff game on Saturday.
Senior Mia Oakley-Stilson posted a double-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds, four steals and one block to lead the Spartans, who concluded the campaign as Rio Hondo League’s runner-up with a 7-2 record (18-11 overall).
Sophomore Jennifer Musso registered eight points, two steals and two boards while junior Talia Miyamoto tallied six points, three rebounds and one block. Junior Andrianna Pitsos finished with five points, two steals and one board while freshman Madison Hunt recorded four points, seven rebounds, two steals and one block. Junior Isabella Chividjian scored two points with two steals, two boards and one assist while sophomore Sydney Magtoto collected three rebounds and one assist.
The Spartans previously defeated host Villa Park, 42-35, in their CIF first-round game as Pitsos poured in 13 points with two boards, two assists and one steal. Oakley-Stilson racked up nine points, eight rebounds, two blocks, one steal and one assist while Hunt registered seven points, seven boards and two assists. Chividjian finished with five points, three rebounds and two steals while Musso tallied four points, six boards, one block and one assist. Magtoto scored two points with five rebounds, two assists and one block while Miyamoto recorded two points, three boards and one assist.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

The Wolves defeated visiting Corona del Mar High of Newport Beach, 57-46, in their CIF-Southern Section Division 3AA second-round game on Saturday.
Senior captain Ashley Chea racked up 28 points, six rebounds and six assists while freshman Maddie Smith poured in 21 points with eight boards, five steals and three assists. Sophomore Olivia Childs recorded four points and one steal while freshman Akemi Fu tallied two points, seven rebounds, one block and one steal. Sophomore Gigi Mastras registered two points, four boards and one assist while junior Kassidy Huie scored two points with one steal, one rebound and one assist. Junior Catherine Baldocchi finished with one board while freshman Pressley Huie had one assist.
Flintridge Prep (26-2 overall) visited Sunny Hills High in Fullerton (21-9 overall) for its CIF quarterfinal matchup yesterday; the game ended after the Outlook Valley Sun’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. If victorious, the Wolves would advance to the semifinals and battle either Murrieta Valley (18-10 overall) or El Dorado High of Placentia (20-8 overall) on Saturday, Feb. 18.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART

The Tologs lost at Shalhevet High in Los Angeles, 55-37, in their CIF-Southern Section Division 4AA second-round game on Monday as sophomore Ava Nawrocki poured in 12 points.
Senior captain Sophia Heredia, senior Meghan Garrity and freshman Lori Yacoubian each recorded six points, freshman Bella Hagobian scored three points, and seniors Cassie Huston and Ella Rogers each had two points.
FSHA previously defeated host Garey High in Pomona, 43-31, in a CIF first-round game. Nawrocki racked up 20 points, five steals, four assists and two rebounds while Garrity registered 14 points, four steals, four boards and one assist. Heredia tallied five points, 10 rebounds, seven steals, five assists and one block, junior Isabelle Risha finished with two points, 10 boards, one steal and one assist, and Rogers scored two points with two rebounds. Sophomore Sophia Astacaan collected nine boards, one block and one steal while Hagobian recorded three rebounds.
The Tologs finished the campaign tied as Angelus League runners-up with a 4-4 record (15-14 overall) and will look to return to the postseason next year.
