Local Squads Engage in Nonleague Action

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ volleyball team was recently swept in nonleague matchups by Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta, 25-17, 25-12, 25-19, and Arcadia, 25-15, 25-13, 25-17.
The Spartans previously edged visiting Chaminade High of West Hills, 25-15, 23-25, 23-25, 25-19, 17-15, in a five-set thriller. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
LCHS (4-7 overall) will visit Eagle Rock High School on Monday, March 13, at 6 p.m. before opening Rio Hondo League action against visiting South Pasadena on March 14.

St Francis High School junior Titus Rodz produced 19 kills and 10 digs during a nonleague match against Sanger last week

ST. FRANCIS

The Golden Knights lost to visiting Sanger, 25-23, 31-29, 23-25, 25-23, in a nonleague match last Thursday as senior captain Gabe Metcalf amassed 48 assists, 23 digs, five kills, two blocks and one ace.
Junior Titus Rodz racked up 19 kills, 10 digs, two aces, one block and one assist, senior Travis Brown registered 15 kills, seven digs, three assists and two blocks, and sophomore Ryan Bender finished with 13 kills, 11 digs, three blocks and two assists. Senior Blake Welsh tallied four kills and four blocks, senior captain James Clapp produced three kills, six blocks, three digs and one ace, and junior Will Martinez recorded three kills. Senior Drew Miller posted 14 digs and seven assists while senior Trevor Shackleton had four digs and one assist.
SFHS previously swept host Santa Margarita High in Rancho Santa Margarita, 25-20, 25-14, 25-20, in a nonleague match. Metcalf racked up 30 assists, seven digs, one ace, one kill and one assist while Brown registered 11 kills, three digs, one ace and one assist.
St. Francis (7-3 overall) will visit Burroughs High in Burbank for a nonleague match today at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Redondo Union High of Redondo Beach on March 13.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

The Wolves competed in the Providence Tournament in Burbank last week and finished with a 3-2 record.
Flintridge Prep lost its tournament finale against North High of Torrance, 25-20, 28-26. Senior Kerry Ji registered 10 kills and two aces while junior Warren Nam tallied 13 kills, 13 digs and one assist. Junior Preston Chen produced 13 assists and two digs, senior Jake Matsumoto finished with 13 assists, four digs and one ace, and junior Roderick Liu had 16 digs. Freshman Kyle Yun had four kills and one dig while freshman Dylan Choi recorded two kills, one assist and one dig. Senior Jacob Lee posted two kills while senior Matt Wang had one dig.
The Wolves lost to La Salle College Preparatory, 24-26, 26-24, 15-13, in a tournament match. Chen registered 14 assists, six digs and one ace while Matsumoto finished with 13 assists and 10 digs. Nam recorded 13 kills, 18 digs, one block and one assist while Ji tallied 10 kills, five digs, two aces and one block. Dylan Choi produced four kills and one assist, Yun had four kills and one block, and Liu had eight digs and two assists. Wang posted two blocks while Lee had one kill.
Flintridge Prep swept its pool play competition last Thursday after beating New Roads High of Santa Monica, 25-5, 25-17, Yeshiva University of Los Angeles, 25-10, 25-14, and Ontario Christian, 25-14, 11-25, 16-14. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
The Wolves previously defeated host San Marino in a nonleague match, 25-16, 25-18, 18-25, 25-23. Nam registered 21 kills while Ji tallied 11 kills. Wang finished with four kills, Dylan Choi recorded three kills and Yun had two kills.
Flintridge Prep (4-4 overall) will open Prep League action at Pasadena Poly on Friday, March 10, at 4:30 p.m. before hosting Palos Verdes Chadwick on March 15.
