Spartans Win Thriller Against Heritage Christian

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ lacrosse team edged host Heritage Christian High in Northridge, 10-9, in a Gold Coast League game last Friday.
Senior Jake Jewell registered two goals, two assists and six ground balls, junior Dylan Jeffries tallied three goals and two ground balls, and junior Keshav Fernando recorded three goals and two ground balls. Junior Thomas Sorensen produced one goal, two assists and two ground balls while sophomore Finn Valderhaug finished with one goal and four ground balls.
Sophomore Conor Roehmholdt posted nine ground balls and one assist, senior Andrew Moon had two ground balls and 11 face-off wins, and senior Kyle McKinney made eight saves with one ground ball. Sophomore Einstein Shin had four ground balls one shot on goal, sophomore River Wokosin had four ground balls, and junior Mason O’Brien, junior Cayden Klein, sophomore Tristan Connolly, sophomore Tyler Ricks and freshman Parker Weightman each had one ground ball.
The Spartans lost to visiting Village Christian High of Sun Valley, 16-3, in a league matchup last Tuesday. Fernando tallied one goal and three ground balls, Jeffries finished with one goal and two ground balls, and sophomore Spencer Turner scored one goal. Valderhaug registered one assist and two ground balls while O’Brien and Ricks were each credited with an assist. McKinney racked up 22 saves, Moon had six face-off wins and sophomore Garrett Walling had two face-off wins. Junior Mac Reese produced one shot on goal and one ground ball while Shin recorded one shot-on-target and one ground ball. Freshman Everett Hernandez and Roehmholdt each had two ground balls while Sorensen and Klein each had one ground ball.
LCHS recently lost a nonleague game at St. John Bosco High in Bellflower, 18-4. Valderhaug scored three goals while Fernando recorded one goal and one assist. Sophomore Kai Gundersen made 11 saves while McKinney had three saves.
The Spartans previously lost a league game at Brentwood School in Los Angeles, 16-2. Fernando and Jeffries each scored once, O’Brien and Valderhaug each had one assist, McKinney made 22 saves and Moon won 13 of 18 face-offs.
La Cañada (3-7 overall, 1-4 in league) will host powerhouse Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta for a league game today at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Simi Valley on March 27.

ST. FRANCIS

The Golden Knights lost a Mission League game at Harvard-Westlake High in Studio City, 15-6, last Friday.
SFHS previously won a league game against visiting Notre Dame High of Sherman Oaks, 16-4, and a nonleague game at Newbury Park, 18-1, after narrowly losing its league opener at Sierra Canyon High in Chatsworth, 12-10. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook.
The Golden Knights (4-6 overall, 1-2 in league) will host Yorba Linda for a nonleague game tonight at 7 p.m. before hosting Chaminade High of West Hills for a league matchup on March 24.
