Local Student Competing in National Hockey Tournament

Kai Wagoner, a sophomore who formally attends La Cañada High School and is also currently at a renowned ice hockey prep school, Shattuck St. Mary’s in Fairbault, Minnesota, will be competing in the upcoming USA Hockey Girls 16U Tier II Nationals hosted by her club, the Anaheim LadyDucks. The prestigious event is being held this weekend in Irvine.
Wagoner, who plays forward, got her start in the sport with the La Cañada High School club hockey team in the 2019-20 school year.
“Coach Mathews was an incremental piece to Kai’s desire to pursue ice hockey at a high level,” Morgan Bui said of her daughter’s experience in an email to the Outlook Valley Sun. “After a whirlwind season traveling all over the United States to various tournaments, the girls have the great honor of representing the state of California for USA Hockey Girls 16U Tier II hockey.
“The team will play head-to-head with some of the best girls’ hockey teams in the USA,” Bui continued. “Kai looks forward to representing not only her hometown of La Cañada Flintridge, but the many girls who dedicate their lives
to playing Tier II girls’ ice hockey in California.”
